Hi, I’m Edwin Stumpf, 26 years old, and I live in Burgum. After 6 years of university education, I had enough of sitting in classrooms. I wasn’t keen on another 4 years of theory, so I chose to follow a BBL trajectory (work-learning). The combination of gaining professional knowledge while earning an income is very appealing to me.
How it Started:
My career began with training as a nurse, but I missed the connection with technology. I knew I wanted to do something in technology, but I wasn’t sure what exactly. Through a staffing agency, I ended up at Dotec. After a pleasant conversation with Arnold Postma, production and service manager, and an extensive tour where I could try out the Dotec systems myself, I became very enthusiastic! I then spent a day on the work floor and met the team. Dotec offered the opportunity to follow a BBL trajectory, and I quickly realized I could learn a lot here. Since April 2023, I’ve been working here 32 hours a week and spending about 12 hours a week on my studies.
The Team:
I was attracted by the chance to work with a young team. The informal atmosphere, room for development, gaining professional knowledge, and a game of ‘ping-pong’ during breaks make me look forward to going to work.
Work and Study:
The variety and diversity of daily tasks make my job enjoyable. I help with assembling the Dotec Jib Cranes and work in the turning and milling department. I actually get involved in everything, making my tasks broad and never monotonous.
At school, I learn about all aspects of mechatronics, not all of which apply to my daily work. At Dotec, I have the space to delve into these areas and gain experience.
Future:
So far, I’m having a great time. I’m grateful to Dotec for the opportunities and possibilities they offer me. The practical knowledge I gain here is not something I get at school. That’s why this ‘work-learning’ combination suits me so well. In 4 years, I’ll be finished with my studies and I want to continue working at Dotec.
